Discrimination, why?

ISFiT will be arranged February 2017. The theme of the festival is discrimiation.

Did you know that 40 percent of the UN members punish homosexuality with improsonment? That 93 women in India are raped every day? That women in Lativa are not allowed to work night shifts? That the black part of the population in the US earn 25 percent less than the white?

These are just a few examples of the challanges the world, ISFiT and Trondheim will be adressing when the Student Society welcomes participants from all over the world in February 2017.

The purpose of ISFiT is to gather students from different backgrounds and with different voices, to a dialouge where premisess are different from what you are used to, and where you have to aquire perspectives and values you have never before been exposed to. This is very challenging, and for many probably intolerable.

Definitions and limits will be challenged, and many will be forced to confront their beliefs on what discrimination is, who are affected, and in which way discrimination takes place. ISFiT invites students to a neutral ground, where all voices are heard and respected. We will give an arena to those who are often forced to silence. We will ecxhange ideas, good and bad, and new perspectives will be acquired.

By gaining insight into the mechanisms of discrimination and through the perspectives of 500 participants, ISFiT will be able to grab the most demanding challenges and take the complexity of discrimination seriously.
